WHO WE ARE

Homeless of Kisumu is a non-profit organization offering psychosocial support and empowerment to street-connected children, youth, and women as well as vulnerable families in informal settlements of Kisumu County, with an aim of bringing back dignity to humanity.

Our Story

Since its inception in August 2020, HOK has run an Academy to rehabilitate children and youth using arts and sports as a tool. Sports for development has been the approach by creating a safespace that allows for social interaction and character development. The Academy has allowed us to identify, rescue, and reintegrate children back home and school, offer counseling, and access to medical services. We have also empowered youth and women through training and grants to set up enterprises for self-reliance. It operated as a project under a mother NGO, before being registered as a CBO in November 2021.

Our Approach

HOK aims to rehabilitate, heal, educate, develop and empower them to a future away from the street. HOK brings together various individuals and organizations who are passionate about the welfare of children, youth, and women in Kisumu County.

Educate

HOK aims at educating children who depend on the streets for their survival – whether they live on the streets, work on the streets, have support networks on the streets, or a combination of the three.

Heal

HOK meets the nutrition and health status of street children which is not at satisfactory level. They lack bathing and toilet facilities, and they are exposed to various health hazards, unsanitary surroundings, and climatic variations.

Rehabilitate
